CHARACTER NAME: SallyJuspeczyk Jupiter
FANDOM: Watchmen
CHRONOLOGY: In that vague behind-the-scenes area after she divorces her husband, Larry.
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: Silk Spectre
ALTER EGO: Sally Jupiter
BACKGROUND:
Before legally changing her name, she was born Sally Juspeczyk, to a pair of second-generation Polish-Americans. Often being the butt of people’s jokes due to her Polish heritage, the young girl came to be ashamed of her Polish last name and resent it. She grew up in a small town five miles away from Chicago; her father was an insurance salesman, while her mother was the usual stay-at-home mom. Her sister, Linda, was a few years older than her. Life was good for the household, until her sister died in a horrible car accident when Sally was just eleven. Everyone was distraught by her sudden death. Sally's father started to develop a drinking problem and turned into somewhat of an abusive alcoholic, while her mother became a ghost of her former self. The young Sally was at a loss, and decided to run away to New York City to start a new life, unable to stand the way things were being handled at home. She survived the city by doing odd jobs, and finally settled into waitressing by day and burlesque dancing by night. But what Sally really wanted was to live the life of a moviestar.
It was during this time that Sally met her future agent Laurence Schexnayder. With the appearance of the Hooded Justice, a masked vigilante taking crime fighting into his own hands, the idea of having real-life 'superheroes' running around New York City were starting to sky rocket. While many starry-eyed kids say this as the era of costumed heroes, Larry saw this as an opportunity to make this pretty young redheaded girl into a star, and better yet...make a business out of it.
Larry set up multiple fake heists for the Silk Spectre to intervene with, and soon she became a small-time sensation, catching the eye of another up-and-coming costumed vigilante. Captain Metropolis contacted Sally's agent, and thus the Minutemen were formed. They started sometime 1939, and the group consisted of Sally Jupiter aka the Silk Spectre, Captain Metropolis, Hooded Justice, Dollar Bill, Mothman, Nite Owl, the Silhouette, and a youngster by the name of the Comedian. The team soon became a success and a household name not only in New York City, but the rest of the United States.
Of course, like most groups of people, there were a share of problems. While on the outside the group looked like one big happy family, the truth of the matter was that anyone who decided to don a mask and costume and fight crime were not all right in the head. One of the first biggest scandals the team faced was one that did not become public knowledge until well after the team broke up. The attempted rape of Sally Jupiter by the Comedian was swept under the rug as soon as the youngest member of the team was kicked out, but such an act of course had a huge impact on the sort of woman Sally would become.
Following that, the team was doomed to fail. While they saw a few years together, more and more scandals began to arise such as the Silhouette's outting as a lesbian followed by her expulsion and death, the Dollar Bill's tragic death, Mothman's alcoholism, and racist remarks from both Captain Metropolis and the Hooded Justice. Sally was essentially the glue holding the team together, and when she married her agent Larry she had been expected to return.
But of course, summer happened, and as women with working husbands usually do, she had an affair. With the Comedian no less, after fighting mixed feelings over what had happened between the two of them in the past. But all that matters is that one thing led to the other and Sally found herself pregnant with his child and was forced to leave the team for good to pursue a career as a stay-at-home mother, as most women of the time often do. However, thanks to her career and the money gained, she was well-off.
So the team split up and the Minutemen were no more, and Sally gave birth to a little girl named Laurel Jane. At first, family life carried on as usual, but as the girl grew older and as Larry grew more and more enraged about Sally's summertime tryst, tensions in the household were high. There were fights after fights, arguments after arguments, and soon after a heated argument over their usual subject of Laurie and Sally's one-time relationship with the Comedian, the two of them got a divorce.
And this is when she makes yet another return to the City.
PERSONALITY:
On the outside, Sally Jupiter comes across as a rather confident, spunky young woman. She’s known to be a bit of a curser and a drinker, but not to the extent that she’s known only for those reasons. In fact, what she’s best known for is her rather sexy take on this whole masked vigilantism business. She’s taken advantage of the fact that men find her irresistible, and that both played as an advantage and disadvantage with her costumed hero career. The young woman is not embarrassed or appalled at the thought of being a sex symbol; Sally’s quite flattered by all of it, actually. After all, she’d rather be a sex symbol than the other sorts of symbols that have been floating around. She embraces it, and is knowledgeable of the phrase, sex sells.
She is a rather quirky young woman, who normally speaks her mind, and although she’s usually a good-natured sort of woman with a sense of humour, there are also bursts of hotheadedness that die down soon after. She’s a kindhearted woman, although she tends to be overbearing at times, especially towards her daughter. Sally’s also smart business-wise, and often knows what she wants, and knows she could get it. She prides herself in her independence, and despite to have seemingly settled after getting married and retiring, she isn’t exactly settled completely. Sally's also very conscious of her outer appearance. A hair our of place or a broken nail would probably devastate her.
On the inside, however, Miss Jupiter is a rather different person. Despite oozing self confidence in herself and her image as being a sex symbol, she is a rather self-conscious individual, and often longs for the attention of men. She has extreme self-esteem issues that could have possibly been stemmed from her attempted rape by the Comedian. She partially blames herself for his sexually assaulting her, feeling as though her manner of dress provoked his attack. Sally is also slightly ashamed of herself, and often finds herself confused with her feelings. She can hold grudges, but at the same time she’s willing to forgive, but not forget. To her, the future seems grimmer, while the past seems to appear brighter each day. She misses her crime fighting days, as well as the spotlight, for it's no secret that she craves attention. On the outside she may appear strong, but on the inside she's a confused individual with plenty of regret.
POWER:
-Above average agility and strength
-Healing factor : only small wounds, such as cuts heal up within the half hour (it's not exactly immediate), while everything more serious heals up at a faster rate than the average human. For example, if she were to break her ribs, they would heal within twenty-four hours to a week rather than the usual four weeks, anything that would require stitches would heal within the day.
-Pheromones : Of the sexual kind because I am a horrible person /sob Once Sally figures it out, it can be controlled and muted (or expanded if she really wants), but for now she'll unknowingly secrete pheromones that make men and lesbians feel a sort of pull towards her. It's nothing like that'll prompt anyone to act out control and can easily be ignored, but they'll find themselves slightly smitten with her if they allow it. So smitten in fact that if you were a criminal, you might be tempted to just go up to her and ask to be arrested shush you I like going by canon quotes. WILL PROBABLY REQUIRE A PERMISSIONS POST AYUP YUP.
